It combines real-time satellite observations with historical analysis to generate updated forecasts every hour, addressing one of the main limitations of earlier systems: the difficulty of tracking fast-changing, localized conditions.

The model can represent important surface variables such as temperature and moisture at resolutions as detailed as five kilometers. Other surface variables operate at 10-kilometer resolution, while atmospheric variables such as wind speed are modeled at 25 kilometers. The company is committing $1 billion in subsidized access to Daybreak products, training, technical support and partnerships.

OpenAI says the subsidized access is targeted for use over the next six months, beginning in the United States before expanding to partner countries.

Daybreak tools are intended to help authorized defenders review legacy code, analyze suspicious activity, identify and validate vulnerabilities, prioritize risks and develop tested fixes. The initiative also includes more than 35 enterprise products and partner-operated services through the Daybreak Defense Network.
